TOPICS: Facts and logic are sacred
We might be sure on our verdict. But being sure does not necessarily mean that it needs to be correct. We are humans.
We all can make many sorts of errors. We make mistakes, and it is the part of our life. Before leaving any kind of influential comments or making any decisions, we need to analyse the aspects from various dimensions and from various perspectives.
If we keep on committing only what we say is right our logic is the best logic, but it would take no time for the errors to transform into blunders.
Let us take the example of the public transport strike; many of us think that the traffic police are unnecessarily charging penalties for their own benefit. We should not forget that they are just the implementers.
The rule was initiated by the government some months ago to reduce the jump in the number of traffic accidents in order to make the drivers drive cautiously while carrying their passengers.
Will only financial penalties dwindle the number of mishaps? It might be another matter for study.
If we are not sure about any topic we should rather ask, queer, and study the issue. The doubtful matters should be conceptually clear. Making confident statements just listening to somebody’s words might be fatal at times.
Moreover, heated arguments with somebody on trying to keep oneself up will also not be benign. If possible we should try to convince either ourselves or the others.
It might not be that serious in early life, but in professional life, one should always try to speak taking the support of facts rather than one’s own intuition and subjective opinion.
So, the grads and under-grads should develop the habit of speaking, commenting or making decisions on the basis of some strong grounds.
Reacting on emotional stress might sway us from making credible statements. Emotional decisions and statements can have long term consequences. We should try to be internally stable and keep our emotions aside while in any sort of situation.
Trying to prove ourselves right, we end up making horrendous decisions. Let us not make a major statement or decision without conclusive evidences. Let us consult each other, hear what others have to say, and let us welcome the opposing views and make all efforts to find out the truth.
There is a saying, a famous one, ‘The wise always listen to others more’.
