TOPICS: Nitty-gritty of show management
Putting an act together takes a lot of gumption and a flair for showmanship to enthrall the audience. And, making the event possible is the manager working quietly behind the scenes. While those under him/her look for directions and inspiration
so that the show is initiated as
per schedule.
It is said that the show must go on whatever may be the technical hitches, malfunctioning wardrobe and the fickleness of the weather.
No excuses here to worm one’s way out of what is a commitment and a responsibility. Of course, there is no guarantee that everything will work out but the team behind it gives their best shot.
And finally when the floodlights hits the stage the crowd goes wild sitting through the whole gamut and simply loving every minute of it.
The event manager is the one to look up to when there is a snag and it becomes difficult to proceed. There is no gainsaying that he/she may have all the answers but at least minor problems can be sorted out. These, inevitably, crop up even when the audience finds nothing wrong.
And in the press meetings prior to and after it’s all over questions do come up thick and fast regarding the programme. But the main person who becomes responsible in a short period may choose to remain aloof and detached in the midst of the briefings. Nothing perturbs his/her features frozen like a statue.
Perhaps it is because so much has to be done within the limited time allotted that there is no whims-and-fancies. No reason for errors even if
the acts itself goes haywire. But in
the middle of it all the professionalism which the team puts up deserves
accolade. Often enough their contribution goes unnoticed in the glare
of publicity.
The show is remembered long
after it’s all over for its spell binding performance and the electrifying
atmosphere.
This comes as a tribute to the guiding hand of the individual responsible for making a concept come to life in a blaze of colours and sound effects.
When the event is over and the last of the crowd has filed away leaving empty chairs and the stage lights have dimmed, time begins to take stock. And, do full justice to the appreciation coming one’s way.
