TOPICS: Smoking hazards
It’s nothing new that smoking is injurious to health. Nor it is something new that many public awareness programmes are against smoking.
But still despite continuous efforts, the trend of smoking is increasing day by day.
Individuals have complete right on their lives. They can do what they want to do because they have right to freedom.
But it must be considered that utilization of their rights may not hamper others rights and freedoms. Healthy living is everyone’s right and for the sake of a few people, everyone’s rights mustn’t be risked.
Nowadays, though there are many rules and regulations regarding public smoking, the number of smokers smoking in public is increasing.
Travelling in public vehicles seems to be a curse as any passenger may smoke freely inside vehicles without any restrictions. Visiting markets is worse as smoke is what surrounds us from our initial step to final destination.
People prefer parks for morning and evening walks to freshen their body, but the efforts go in vain as the fresh air is decorated with nicotine filled smokes.
Everywhere you go, you find cigarette smell and nothing more.
It’s alright if people want to ruin their lives because some people aren’t understanding but this act should be stopped at least in public places because their acts risk others’ lives as the non-smokers suffer much more than smokers.
Smoking is a way of relief for some individuals and it’s a way of fashion for teenagers. Students, who learn ‘Smoking is injurious to health ‘ in schools, promote smoking outside the school compounds.
Those students are well aware of the negative impact of harmful smoke not only to themselves but to all the people around them. Still they neglect the facts and their learning.
Youths, who must be involved in various awareness programmes, themselves support this wrong-doing.
Hence, I don’t suppose people smoke because they are unaware as students attending good schools can’t be unaware of this.
In fact, people smoke because they are well aware that rules are not meant to be followed. The weakness in implementation of rules and regulations is not only destroying one’s life but the whole nation and its future.
I wonder who is responsible for punishing the wrongdoer, because without this the rules will not be respected, so that the citizens don’t have to suffer.
Maybe it’s us as every individual is capable of doing the right and healthy things.
