Adult franchise is the foundation of a democracy. Vigilant citizens are needed for democracy to flourish. If citizens are not vigilant, there will chaos and disorder in the country.

As for the case of local level election matters, the local people should be cautious for the betterment of their locality. Overall development of the country is possible only when local bodies are strong. To make local bodies strong, the local people have to give priority to those candidates who are competent.

Thinking that the local level election was a weapon for positive change of my locality, I went to the polling center to utilize my adult franchise. As I have already cast votes for two CA polls, the system itself was not new for me. But, it was my first experience to cast votes for local candidates.

It was also unique in the sense that there were more candidates within a single party and most of them were familiar. They were even speculating about the certainty of their victory.

As a voter of Kirtipur Municipality ward no. 2, I had to complete all the formalities to cast a vote. Before entering the booth, the security force reminded me not to bring cell phones. Then, the representatives of political parties checked my record with the help of the card that I had.

Then after government employees rechecked my record, marked a black sign on the thumb and provided me a ballot paper. Other voters were queuing so I had to wait for some time. At last, I cast my vote secretly for the seven posts. I folded the paper properly and dropped it into the ballot box.

I am fully satisfied with the government employees and security forces who gave me the sense of security to cast the vote. I observed the activities for an hour there. I found the sense of confidence among other voters too.

They were saying that whatever they thought before entering the polling center turned out to be wrong. As it was a local level election, they had some sort of fear but that vanished after observing the proper management maintained by the Election Commission.

Hope whoever will win, they will be role models for the betterment of local levels. They will be successful in fulfilling the gap at the local level that became representative-less for a long period of time. They will not believe in nepotism. Corruption will be ended. ‘Work is worship’ will be their motive.

The countenance of Nepal will be changed and turned into an ideal state with the development at the local level. Peace and coexistence will ensue.
