LALITPUR

The coconut-throwing ritual (Nariwal Khasalne Jatra) of the Rato Machhindranath Rath Jatra was completed at Thatitol, Lagankhel, on Wednesday.

According to tradition, four days after the chariot of Machhindranath reaches Lagankhel, the eldest among the chariot makers climbs to the top of the chariot and throws a coconut into the crowd. The following day, only women pull the chariot.

This year, due to high winds, storms and rain, the coconut-throwing event was delayed until late evening.
