Medallists feted

KATHMANDU: Nepal Muay Thai Association on Thursday felicitated the medallists of 14th World Muay Thai Championship held in Thailand from March 11-18.

Sanjay Thapa had won gold medal in 48kg weight category, while Anisha Khadka took silver in 67kg. Deepak Tamang and Karuna Upreti had bagged bronze medals.

Sachindra Ranjit (67kg) and Ram Gopal Shah (60kg) also took part in the championship. Member Secretary of National Sports Council Keshab Kumar Bista and Nepal Muay Thai Association President Ganesh Kakshyapati handed over Rs 20,000 and certificate to Rai, while others received appreciation letters.

Kakshyapati said the players were taking part in the world championship since 2010 and they had won three bronze medals in the previous editions. “We have won medals in the world championship and the players also deserve felicitation from the government,” he said. Member Secretary Bista said the NSC would honour the medallists in next felicitation programme. “We’ve a programme to felicitate all the medallists and the Muay Thai players will be included in the list,” Bista added.
