Samir Acharya won the sixth edition title of Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Played under stroke play full handicap format, the 113-handicap amateur golfer Acharya played a round of six-under 66 to finish first in nett category. Ranadeep Thapa finished second on count back after he was tied on five-under 67 with Maj Gen Iswar Kant Mainali.
Thapa carded four-under 32 on the back nine, while Mainali played three-under 33. Mainali was second runner-up.
Wangchen Dhondup won the gross section title with the score of one-under 71, while Aaiesteena Tandan won the women's category trophy with the score of two-under 70. The women's section competition was introduced from this edition.
In all, 52 golfers participated in the tournament organised by Gokarna Golf Club under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Managing Director of Gokarna Forest Resort Chanda Sherpa handed over the prize to the winners.
After the sixth edition, Ranadeep Thapa - who earned 60 points with the runner-up finish today - moved to the top of the nett section table with 190 points.
Babu Sherpa slipped to second with 140 points, while Karna Thapa is third with 135 points. Pavitra Kumar Karki is at fourth position with 125 points, while three golfers - Samir Acharya, Ang Dorjee Sherpa and Purna B Rai - share the fifth place with 100 points each. Robin Rana and Charlie Gurung are tied for eighth on 75 points, followed by Pradip KC (70).
In gross category, Wangchen Dhondup jumped three places up to the top of the leader board with 235 points.
Dhondup, who was at the fourth position after fifth edition, earned 100 points following today's victory. His brother, Tashi Tshiring climbed to second position with 205 points after he earned 40 points today, while fifth-round leader Vijay Shrestha Einhaus slipped to third with 200 points. Sadbhav Acharya is fourth with 160 points, whereas Tashi Dong is fifth with 120. After 10 monthly medal rounds, top 40 golfers in nett section and top 20 players in gross category will qualify for the Club Championship finals.
