Adhikari, Magar advance
KATHMANDU: Kumar Adhikari and Sriram Magar won their respective men’s singles matches here at the second APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament today.
Adhikari shut out Chhewang Lama 6-0, 6-0 while Magar won 7-5, 4-0 after his opponent Santosh Khatri retired hurt. In the women’s singles matches, Priti Rijal hammered Saloni Lama 6-0, 6-0, Alisha Lisanovic defeated Rita Gurung 6-2, 6-3, Malika Rana saw off Sagun Thapa 6-2, 6-2 and Kalpana Thapa overcame Ramita Kapali 6-2, 6-1.
In the veterans singles (above 35-yrs), Krishna Raj Ghale dispatched Rajendra Bahadur Singh 6-0, 6-0, Kamal Thapa humiliated Gauri Shankar Shrestha 6-0, 6-0, Sanu Gurung saw off Tribhuvan Bista 6-2, 6-2, Sukaman Tamang beat Anuj Arora 6-2, 5-7 (10-6) in super tie-breaker, Harbindra Singh Chadda beat Mahesh Shrestha 6-3, 6-3, Manoj Shah rallied for a 2-6, 7-6 (10-8) win over Raju Rai, Rajesh Chhetri got the better of Durga Kunwar 6-2, 6-1 while Birendra Shahi and Gopal Das Manandhar got walkover wins.
Rajesh Shrestha and Dharma Shahi combined to defeat Harbindra Singh Chadda and Rameshwor Tiwari 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, Uttam Lama and Rajesh Chhetri saw off Chandra Shahi and Abdul Rahman 0-6, 7-5, 10-8 and Krishna Raj Ghale and Suwarna Dhakwa eased past Arjun Karki and Suman Dhakwa 6-0, 6-1 in the veterans doubles (above 35-yrs). Also in the same event, Sanu Lama and Manoj Rana saw off Sunil Gurung and Hem Bahadur Gurung 6-1, 6-3.
In all 189 players are vying for championships in eight events.
