AFC U-14: Nepal lose to Bangladesh 0-1
KATHMANDU: Nepal Under-14 girl's football team lost to Bangladesh 0-1 in the final match of AFC U-14 Girls' Regional Championship (South & Central) that was postponed following the devastating earthquake on April 25, on Sunday, Nepali Army Sports Centre in Lagankhel.
Bangladesh lifted the trophy thanks to Maria's winning goal in the 16th minute.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended the programme as the chief guest. PM Oli will be distributing prizes to the winners and the runner-ups at the venue.
Minister for Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal among others was also present in the game as a special guest.
Earlier at a press meet in Kathmandu, Nepali team coach Kishor KC and skipper Puja Rana had expressed their confidence to remain the champions of the title. However, the team failed to stand by their words in the real time.
Nepali Coach KC and Bangladesh coach Golam Rabbani Choton said the players were in training for the last 20 days and 15 days respectively for this day.
Asian Football Federation (AFC) had postponed the tournament after the earthquake following the request made by the Bangladesh Football Federation.
Nepal and Bangladesh qualified to the final after defeating India 1-0 and Iran 2-0 in the semi-finals.
The date for third place match, between India and Iran that was being played in the Dashrath Stadium when the earthquake struck the country, has not been decided yet.

From the Nepali team, Rabita Kumari (goalkeeper), Nisha Thokar, Puja Rana (captain), Riya Thokar, Saru Limbu, Samjhana Lawati, Rekha Poudel, Nirmala Upadhayay, Suwani Kuswar, Manjali Kumari and Manisha Raut played in the field.
While Shamsunnahar, Ruma, Sheuli, Nargis, Sanjida, Moushumi, Krishna Rani (captain), Marzia, Shopna, Maria and Taslima (goalkeeper) played from the Bangladesh team.
