Afghanistan clinch trophy
AJMAN: Mohammad Nabi struck a scintillating half century to steer Afghanistan to a comprehensive 84-run win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the final of the ACC Twenty20 Cup here on Monday.
Batting first, Afghanistan scored a massive 196-8 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting the UAE for 112 runs in 14.3 overs. Middle order batsman Nabi was the star performer scoring a fiery 73 off just 38 balls. Afghanistan were 63-4 when Nabi entered the ground and struck nine fours and four sixes to help his team post a mammoth total. Mohamed Tauqir was pick of the UAE bowlers with 3-29 while Moiz Shahid took 2-36.
The UAE were on the back foot early on after losing three wickets for 23 before skipper Khurram Khan (34) and Naeemuddin Aslam (37) put some resistance in the middle overs. The UAE were eventually dismissed in the 15th over soon after the two batsmen were sent to the pavilion. Man of the match Nabi also returned to take four wickets and was supported by Shahpoor Zadran (3-23) and Nowroz Mangal (2-11).
