Ananda Bhumi, New Lira triumph

KATHMANDU: Ananda Bhumi defeated Ideal School by 36 runs and New Lira School edged Dreamland Public School by one wicket in the U-16 Inter-school Kathmandu District Selection Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today.

Put into bat first, Ananda Bhumi were all out for 111 runs in 16 overs before restricting Ideal School for 75-5 in their allotted 20 overs. Ananda Bhumi opener Prakash Poudel scored a fluent 43 to lay the foundation for a competitive target. Poudel struck six fours in his 42-ball knock. Kushal Dhakal contributed 14 and Ayush KC chipped in 12 runs. Ananda Bhumi’s total was boosted by 30 sundries. Sishul Lama was the pick of the Ideal bowlers with 4-7 off two overs while Dibya Chalise claimed 3-9. Somesh Lamichane and Jitendra Karki also picked up one wicket apiece.

In reply, Ideal could manage only 75-7 in 20 overs with none of their batsmen scoring in double figure. Ashish Jaishwal top scored with nine runs. Ideal’s total was helped by 50 extras conceded by wayward Ananda Bhumi bowling. Man of the match Prakash Poudel, Salman Uddin and Bibek Kandel bagged two wickets each while Roshan Bhattarai took one for Ananda Bhumi.

In a low scoring second match, Dreamland were bowled out for a paltry 51 runs off 12.4 overs but New Lira overcame the total losing nine wickets in 18.2 overs. Middle order batsman Roshan Khan scored the highest 13 runs for Dreamland while 16 runs came through extras. Suyash Aryal, who was later named man of the match, completed a five-wicket (5-15) haul for New Lira. Sanjay Sharma also grabbed three and Milan Thapa took two wickets.

Milan Thapa top scored for New Lira with unbeaten 10 off 41 deliveries. New Lira also got 19 runs through sundries. Shishir Thatel claimed 3-8 from four overs for Dreamland. Milan Karki and Roshan Khan also took two wickets each. Gaurav Pathak bagged the other.
