ANFA general assembly today
LALITPUR: The remaining 22 executive members of Nepal’s football governing body will be decided by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) general assembly here on Monday.
In all, 36 person have filed their candidacy for the 22 berths available after top nine posts were unanimously elected on August 8 — the final day fixed for nomination of the candidates. There is also a possibility that the assembly may not need election even for the members as efforts were going on to elect the members unopposed till late night today.
Ganesh Thapa is assured to retaining the presidency for the fourth consecutive term after being elected unopposed on August 8. Eight ANFA vice presidents — Bijay Narayan Manandhar, Sunil
Kapali, Lalit Krishna Shrestha, Narendra Shrestha, Mahesh Bista, Karma
Chhering Sherpa, Kumar Jung
Thapa and Kishor Rai — were
also elected unopposed the same day.
Under the new ANFA provisions, the first executive committee meeting will nominate Chief Executive Officer, General Secretary and Treasurer. ANFA congress constitute of 229 members — 120 from 40 district FAs, 60 from 20 ‘A’ Division, 29 from current ANFA executive committee, a total of 12 from Players,’ Coaches’, Referees’ and Women Football Associations, five from ‘B’ Division and three from ‘C’ Division clubs.
However, there are only 72 voting members — 40 from districts FAs, 20 from A Division, five from B Division, and three from C Division clubs, and one each from All Nepal Football Players Association, Referee Association, Coaches Association and Women Football Association.
