ANFA postpones AGM

The executive committee meeting of the All Nepal Football Association today decided to postpone the Annual General Assembly (AGM) for indefinite period for ‘special reasons’.

Although ANFA cited ‘special reasons’ for it decision, the Appellate Court earlier issued an interim order to stop the AGM. Responding to the write petition filed by Vice-presidents Bijay Narayan Manandhar and Karma Chhiring Sherpa along with Member Pankaj Nembang, single-bench justice Mohan Bahadur Karki issued the order to stop all AGM-related activities and ordered both parties for discussion on Friday.

The ANFA, meanwhile, decided to reward the SAFF U-19 Championship winning team members with Rs 200,000 each. Nepal had on Saturday defeated India 5-4 on penalties to win the major trophy after 22 years. The meeting also decided to collect Rs 100,000 each from its 45 district FAs and appeal the corporate houses to join the ANFA in its bid to honour the players. The government has also announced Rs 100,000 each to players and officials of the team.

The meeting, chaired by ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, approved the appointment of head coach Patrick Aussems and hired senior coach Dhruba KC — who guided the team to a goalless draw against India in Pune — as the technical advisor of the national team. The ANFA has hired the Belgian for six months for the total salary of $42,000. While the government will take care of the coach’s salary, ANFA will bear the accommodation and local transportation costs.

The ANFA also formed a five-member committee headed by deputy General Secretary Mani Kunwar to run it academy more systematically. Joint Treasurer Rabindra Joshi, Assistant CEO Rajendra Neupane, Member Dinesh Byanjankar and Honorary Member Madhusudan Upadhyay are the other members in the committee. Likewise, a five-member committee has been formed under Member Basanta Aryal for the development of futsal. Former General Secretary Lok Bahadur Shahi is the joint convenor of the committee, while three members will be added as per the advice of the two officials.

The meeting nominated Purna Man Chitrakar as the Honorary Member of the ANFA for one year. It also decided to give Rs 1million to 10 hilly districts — Ilam, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Sindhupalchowk, Dolkha, Palpa, Syangja, Lamjung, Baglung and Jumla — for fencing and maintenance of the grounds apart from assisting Surkhet and Nawalparasi FAs with Rs 500,000 for the construction of office building.
