ANFA postpones elections
Lalitpur, March 25
The All Nepal Football Association today postponed its elective general assembly which was scheduled for Wednesday.
As per the press release issued by ANFA General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan, the elections was postponed following the stay order of the Patan High Court issued on Friday.
Reacting to the writ petition filed by Makwanpur and Bhaktapur district FAs, the court issued an interim order to postpone the elections and submit clarification within 15 days. “As the elections committee has issued a notice regarding the postponement of the elections to respect the Patan High Court orders, the ANFA has decided to postpone the 16th AGM and elections programme for now,” the release added.
Bhaktapur FA President Gautam Sukhaju and Makwanpur FA’s senior vice-president Manish Shrestha had filed the writ petition after the ANFA was certain to bar them from taking part in the upcoming elections due to existing controversies in their FAs. And the court has ordered not to hold the elections until the final verdict. “We need to follow the instructions of FIFA and AFC, but we cannot ignore the laws of the land,” Pradhan added.
ANFA senior Vice-president Mani Kunwar and former vice-president Karma Tshiring Sherpa were in the race for post of president of the football governing body.
