APF begin with easy victory

Kathmandu, January 18

Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Shivam New Diamond Academy and Paramount Academy won the opening day matches of the 13th Red Bull Dhorpatan UM Women’s Double League Volleyball Tournament today.

Last year’s runners-up APF registered a 25-3, 25-4, 25-5 victory over Springdale Boarding School, while Paramount recorded double victories in the matches played at the Dhorpatan Volleyball Training Centre courts in New Buspark. Paramount defeated Springdale 25-17, 25-19, 25-27, 25-8 in their first match and returned to outplay Three Star Academy 25-8, 25-19, 25-20. Also, New Diamond Academy conceded just six points in their 25-0, 25-1, 25-5 win against New Diamond Sports Club, while TAC registered a 25-14, 25-5, 25-9 victory over the same opponents.

A total of 12 teams — Nepal APF Club, Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Shivam New Diamond Academy, New Diamond Sports Club, Tops Higher Secondary School, Eastern Regional Volleyball Association, Paramount High School, Springdale English School, Shree Gaun Sports Development Committee, Meghauli Sports Foundation and Three Star Academy — are competing in the event organised by Dhorpatan Sports Club under the sponsorship of Gorkha Brewery. Top seven teams after the first round will qualify for the second league.

The champions will be richer by Rs 325,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 170,000 and second runners-up bag Rs 80,000. Likewise, teams finishing from fourth to seventh positions will receive Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Similarly, the best player, rising player, player-of-the-year and player-of- the-series along with one lucky spectator will get UM Powermax scooter each, sponsored by IME Automotives Pvt Ltd. Also, the best coach, lifter, spiker, blocker, quicker, defender and server will get Rs 5,000 each.
