APF claim IGP third National volleyball title

Kathmandu, April 1

Nepal APF Club won the title of the IGP third National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament here today.

The hosts beat departmental rivals Nepal Police Club in straight sets to win trophy at their backyards. APF won the first set 25-8 before taking the second 25-23. The youngest departmental team then sealed the victory with a 25-20 win in the third set.

With the trophy, APF received Rs 250,000, while NPC earned Rs 125,000. Third-placed Western Region Volleyball Association got Rs 50,000. Usha Kumari Bista was adjudged the best player of the tournament and she received a scooter. Kopila Upreti of NPC was named the best spiker of the tournament, while her teammate Shanti Tamang was declared the best defender.

APF claimed three individual awards — Nabita Chaudhary was declared the best server, Saraswoti Chaudhary was named the best blocker and Sudesh Rimal won the best coach’s award. Shashi Chaudhary of Western Region was adjudged the best setter. The six individuals received Rs 5,000 each. Likewise, Nishana Bal of APF was declared the rising player and he received Rs 10,000 from Krishna Thapa, proprietor of Dhaulagiri Thapa Housing Company.

Nepal APF IGP Durja Kumar Rai and Nepal Volleyball Association president Dan Bahadur Tamang handed over the prizes to the winners. A total of five teams took part in the tournament that was played in round-robin league format and the top two teams played in final.
