APF, TAC win team events

Mahendranagar, Jan 18

Nepal APF Club and Tribhuvan Army Club won team event gold medals in the 39th National Badminton Tournament under the NSC Championship here today.

APF defeated TAC 3-1 in the men’s team event final at the Mahendranagar covered hall. TAC women’s team took revenge with a 2-0 thrashing win over their departmental rivals APF in the women’s section final.

In men’s singles, TAC duo of Ratnajit Tamang and Nabin Shrestha advanced to the semi-finals along with Prince Dahal of Far-western Region and APF’s Dipesh Dhami.

Tamang defeated APF’s Sudeep Sedhai 21-18, 21-18, while Shrestha beat Eastern Region’s Bikash Shrestha 21-14, 21-19. Likewise, Dahal beat TAC’s Praful Maharjan 21-16, 21-19, and Dhami registered a 21-11, 21-7 victory over Sanjeev Khadka of Far-western Region.

In women’s singles, TAC duo Nangshal Tamang and Amita Giri and APF’s Shova Gauchan and Shichhya Shrestha entered the semi-finals. Tamang defeated Sunaina Mukhiya of Eastern Region 21-12, 21-15 and set last four date with Gauchan, who defeated TAC’s Any Maya Rai 21-15, 19-21, 21-15.

Likewise, Giri beat Eastern Region’s Jessica Gurung 21-11, 22-20, while Shrestha outplayed another Eastern Region shuttler Nita Lamsal 21-16, 21-8.

In women’s doubles, Amita Giri and Rasila Maharjan of TAC made it to the semi-finals along with their teammates Nangsal Tamang and Anu Maya Rai.

Also, APF duo Pooja Shrestha and Shichhya Shrestha and Easter Region’s pair of Jessica Gurung and Sunaina Mukhiya advanced to the last four.
