LIVERPOOL: Liverpool will sell Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa to Real Madrid after the Premier League club confirmed that they have agreed a transfer fee with the Spanish team.

Arbeloa began his career with Real and will return to the Bernabeu in a deal worth a reported $6.5 million. Arbeloa is the latest pre-season signing for Real, who have already spent £80 million to lure Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, as well as landing Kaka from AC Milan, Karim Benzema from Lyon and Raul Albiol from Valencia.

Real also hope to sign another of Liverpool’s Spanish contingent as talks continue over a £30 million swoop for midfielder Xabi Alonso. But Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has warned that it would be a major blow if Alonso is allowed to leave.
