Army thump Druk United of Bhutan 5-0, enter into semis of Itahari Gold Cup

KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan Army Club sealed an emphatic triumph over the visiting Druk United of Bhutan to secure semi final berth of the ongoing Madan Bhandari International Invitational Itahari Gold Cup Football Tournament held in Itahari of Sunsari district.

With today's victory, the departmental team will lock horns with Patan-based Three Star Club in a mouth watering semi-finals of the competition on Wednesday.

Padam Tamang and Dinesh Henjam scored a brace each and Tanka Basnet got into the score sheet with a late goal to demolish the visiting team with a wide margin.

Tamang broke the dead lock on the 20th minute and added another in the 40th minute to give his team a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Dinesh Henjam in for Jorge Prince Karki in the second half notch the ball home in the 61th minute and scored his second and team's fourth goal in 79th minute to give his team an inaccessible lead of 4-0 with just few minutes of play remaining in the game.

Tribhuvan Army Club's substitute player Dinesh Henjam was later adjudged as man of the match for his overall performance in the game. He collected Rs 10,000.

Earlier, Army had defeated APF team in the tie-breaker to lift the Nepal Ice Farwest Khaptard Gold Cup held in Dhangadhi recently.
