ACPL organisers cheated on us, say Bangladeshi players

Kathmandu, July 5

Two players of the Bangladesh Tigers, who played in the Asian Club Premier League, today said the organisers cheated them and that they were yet to receive their perks.

Cricket Council of India had organised the tournament under the auspices of National Sports Council, at the Tribhuvan University Stadium. A total of six franchise-based teams competed in the event that concluded on Tuesday with Nepal Storm winning the title.

However, Md Al Amin Hossain, who captained the Bangladesh Tigers, and Anwar Hossain, who also played for the same team after being selected through auction, went to Kathmandu District Administration Office to file the complaint. The DAO referred them to Metropolitan Police Range which sent them to Durbar Marg Police Station saying that the case does not come under them. Durbar Marg Police Station asked the players to come tomorrow.

Al Amin Hossain said he was supposed to receive $4,500 but got only Rs 25,000. Similarly, Anwar Hossain said he was auctioned for INR 50,000 (Rs 80,000) but did not get a single penny.

Al Amin Hossain said he was contacted by SR Dandiwal, chief of the tournament organising committee, and the paper works were done via email. “He had promised me of paying the amount during the tournament. However, Dandiwal made excuses time and again and told me that he will pay as soon as the tournament gets completed. But after the tournament was over, he said that the money will be sent to my bank account from India,” said Al Amin Hossain. “However, I am sure that he is lying,” he said.

The players also missed their flights to Bangladesh after they did not get the amount but the organisers forced them to check out the hotel. The Bangladeshi players also said they had no money to buy tickets to go to their country.

“The organisers cheated on us and now we are in trouble as we have no money to buy tickets and pay for hotel,” said Al Amin Hossain. When inquired about organisers at Hotel Annapurna, the hotel officials informed that the whole team, including Dandiwal, had checked out of the hotel.
