B’desh Tigers, SL Lions make winning start

Kathmandu, June 20

Bangladesh Tigers and Sri Lankan Lions recorded wins in the Asian Club Premier League at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today. Tigers saw off Afghanistan Bulls by three runs, while Lions defeated Indian Stars by 53 runs as the tournament kicked off following the postponement of the opening match on Monday.

In the first match which was reduced to 18-over-a-side, Tigers scored 101-8 after put into bat first before the Bulls were restricted to 98-7. Tigers’ Quazi Zeesan Ahmed hit 19-ball 27 and Karan Gupta remained unbeaten on 17 off 13 balls. Bulls’ skipper Rana Naveed Ul Hassan claimed three wickets and Pawan Yadav took two wickets.

In second match, Lions scored 157-7 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Stars for 101 runs in 15 overs.

A total of six teams, including Nepal Storms, are taking part in the tournament organised by Ultimate Sports Management. The event carries a total cash purse of Rs 6.4 million with top three teams earning Rs 4 million, Rs 1.6m and Rs 800,000 respectively. The player of the series will receive a car.
