Basnet wins Birthday Cup Golf tourney

Kathmandu, January 15:
Deep Bahadur Basnet won the Birthday Cup Golf Tournament at Royal Nepal Golf Course. Basnet, the RNGC captain, finished with 36 points ahead of Lt Gen Krishna Narayan S Thapa, who scored 34. Basnet, who also won the longest drive award at Hole No 11, received Kathmandu-Bangkok-Kathmandu air ticket sponsored by Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation while Thapa got Kathmandu-Delhi-Kathmandu air ticket from Cosmic Air.
Madhav Acharya came first in the senior section (60 years and above) with 31 points, while Narendra K Rai finished second with 27 points. Pushpa Rai (24) emerged victorious in the ladies section, and Kausi Maya Rai finished second with 20 points on count back with Uma Tiwari. The 14-year-old Kabindra Purush Dhakal was the winner in the junior section. Tashi Ghale, who hit four birdies, won the most birdies award, while Maj Gen Gajendra Bahadur Limbu emerged the golfer nearest to the pin at Hole No 17. The two-day tournament was organised by Royal Nepal Golf Club to mark the 34th Birthday of Crown Prince Paras.
