Krishna Basnet of Tribhuvan Army Club won the title of the CoAS Open Marathon organised by the Nepali Army today.
Basnet completed the 42.195km distance in two hours, 21 minutes and 59 seconds to finish first ahead of Tirtha Pun, who came second in 2:22:57. Another TAC athlete, Hom Lal Shrestha was third in 2:23:32. With the win, Basnet received Rs 300,000 along with Yamaha motorcycle, while Pun and Shrestha got Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.
Pushpa Bhandari of Nepal APF Club won the women's half marathon. Bhandari, who won marathon gold medal in Bangladesh earlier this year, finished the 21km race in one hour, 17 minutes and 33 seconds. Bishwo Rupa Buda of TAC came second in 1:20:09, while APF athlete Bindra Shrestha was third in 1:29:46. Top three athletes received Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.
In the below-45 men's half marathon, TAC athletes claimed top three spots. Gajendra Rai was first in 1:06:30, finishing ahead of Rajan Rokaya (1:07:11) and Narendra Singh Rawat (1:08:84). Top three athletes received Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.
In the men's 21km race for above-45, Dharma Maharjan came first in 1:14:29, while Bhim Gurung (1:27:20) and Bhimsen Awale (1:27:51) were second and third respectively.
Top three athletes received Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Likewise, Suman Neupane, Dinesh Bogati and Mahendra Baral claimed top three spots in the 10km race for Armymen.
Also, Durga KC, Chandra Baniya and Devi Pun finished first, second and third in 10km race for female Army officers, while Dishant Bista, Dambar Bahadur Buda and Bishal Chandra did so in male Army officers section. Bishwa Ram Kunwar and Sadisha Karki won the titles of the boys and girls 5km races respectively.
