Basnet wins Pak Ambassador’s Cup

Kathmandu, February 27:
Deep Bahadur Basnet won the Pakistan Ambassador’s Cup Golf Tournament here at Royal Nepal Golf Course today.
Playing at Stableford 7/8 Handicap format, the captain of the Royal Nepal Golf Club scored 33 net points, followed by Rabindra Man Shrestha who scored 31 points.
Khadga Jeet Baral won the title in the super senior (70 years and above) category, while Bishwa Nath Rai came first in the Senior section with 29 points on count back. Binay Raj Pandey finished second in the senior section of the event.
Sandhya Rai scored 25 net points to win the ladies section trophy, while Puspa Rai came second. Other winners of the one-day event included Suman Sapkota (best gross), Deep Bahadur Basnet (most birdies), K C Gurung (closest to the pin at Hole No 8), Shastika Limbu (longest drive at Hole No 13), and Sanjiv Gurung (best sportsmanship).
In all, 55 golfers including three in super senior, five in ladies and 14 in senior section took part in the event, which was started by the then Pakistani Ambassador to Nepal, Mufti Mohammad Abbas in 1975.
Zamir Akram, Pakistan Ambassador to Nepal, gave away prizes to the winners. Apart from Akram, S K Singh, president of RNGC, and captain Deep Bahadur Basnet, were also present on the occasion.
