Bijeshwori win Team C’ship
Kathmandu, December 11:
Bijeshwori School won the team championship of the first United Running Shield Nationwide Inter-school Table Tennis Championship here today.
Bijeshwori earned five gold, two silver and three bronze medals, while hosts United Academy came second with three gold and one bronze medal. AIMS finished third with one gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
In the day’s finals, Elina Maharjan of Bijeshwori defeated Rojina Desar of AIMS 8-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8 to win the girls’ U-16 trophy. Renuka Khatri gave another gold to Bijeshwori when she defeated Reshma Rasel of Sunsari’s Don Bosco 11-3, 11-4, 11-7.
Bijeshwori also won the boys’ doubles gold after Pradeep Rokaya and Anish beat Sonu and Sandeep of AIMS 11-6, 12-10, 11-2, while Elina and Renuka of Bijeshwori defeated Rojina Desar and Anima of AIMS 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 to win the girls’ doubles gold. Bijeshwori won the fifth gold when they clinched the girls team event defeating AVM 3-0.
United won the U-16 boys, U-12 boys and boys’ team event gold medals. Anup Bhakta Joshi won U-16 boys gold beating Pradep Rokaya of Bijeshwori, while United defeated AVM School 3-1 in the team event. Prateek Thapa of United won the U-12 boys’ gold.
Sonu Gupta defeated Prabin Sherpa of Siddhartha Vanasthali 11-8, 11-4, 8-11, 5-11, 11-6 in the U-14 boys’ final for the only gold of AIMS. Manisha Shrestha of Ganesh Memorial School won the Under-12 girls’ section gold.
In all, 925 players from 180 schools of 48 districts took part in the tournament that offered a total cash prize of Rs 60,000 in 10 events. The tournament was organised jointly by United Academy, Lalitpur District Sports Development Committee and Nepal Table Tennis Association.
