Biratnagar enter final to meet Bhairahawa

Region 1 Biratnagar beat Region 3 Kathmandu by seven wickets to enter the final of the Birendra Memorial National League Cricket Tournament being organised here by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) under the sponsorship of Gorkha Brewery here on Wednesday.

Biratnagar will play against Bhairahawa on Saturday. Bhirahawa took berth in the final after their match against Biratnagar was cancelled on May 14 due to rain.

In the day’s match held at the Tribhuvan University ground, Kathmandu were bowled out for 121 runs in 44.3 overs. Openers Paresh Lohani and Rabindra Thapa scored 20 and 18 runs, while Bardan Chalise scored 21 off 60 balls including two boundaries. Sandip Shrestha, Subrat Pandey and Pratik Pradhan scored 11, 10 and 12 runs respectively, while rest five batsmen failed to cross double figure.

For Biratnagar, Mahesh Sen took four wickets conceding 15 runs in 2.3 overs, while Raj Kumar Pradhan grabbed three wickets. Lakpa Lama pocketed two wickets giving away 19 runs in 10 overs, while Unil Shrestha took one wicket.

In reply, Biratnagar overcame the target for the loss of three wickets in 34.5 overs. Opener Mehboob Alam scored 46 off 47 including two sixes and five boundaries, while other opener Yashwant Subedi scored 25. No 3 batsman Deependra Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 31 off 58 including two hits to the ropes, while other not out batsman Unil Shrestha scored three runs. For Kathmandu, Saroj Chitrakar took two wickets conceding 27 runs in seven overs. On Thursday, Region 4 Bhairahawa will play against Region 3 Kathmandu.
