MADRID: Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado is to sign a two-season deal to play for English Premiership side Blackburn, Spanish sports daily Marca said Tuesday.

The 33-year-old, who parted company with big-spending Real earlier this month after 10 years with the club, opted for Blackburn over offers from Dubai and Spanish side Zaragoza, Marca and another paper, AS, said.

AS said Salgado's agent, Gines Carvajal, will travel to Blackburn Tuesday to finalise the deal.

Salgado arrived at Real from Celta Vigo in 1999.
