Boxers leave for Asian Championship

Kathmandu, August 23

A six-member Nepali boxing team today left for Thailand to participate in the Asian Confederation Boxing Championship slated for August 26 to September 5 in Bangkok.

Prem Chaudhary (52kg), Dinesh Shrestha (56kg), Deepak Shrestha (64kg) and Ujjar Singh Thapa (75kg) will represent Nepal in the championship. All the four players have participated in international tournaments and are also the members of the national team. Coach Om Maskey said he was hopeful of medals from Prem Chaudhary and Dinesh Shrestha. Previously, Umesh Maskey and Prabin Tuladhar had won medals in the championship.

Member of NBA Rajesh Kumar Rauniyar and coach Maskey accompanied the players to Bangkok. National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, Vice-president Lama Tendi Shrepa and President of NBA Rajiv Shrestha bade farewell to the team. President Shrestha informed the Championship also served as the selection for the World Boxing Championship slated for October in Doha, Qatar.
