Boxers selected
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Club trio Prem Chaudhary, Bishnu Prasad Ghale and Bimala Shrestha made it to the national team for the 18th Asian Games slated for August 18 to September 2 in Indonesia.
Chaudhary beat Nepal APF Club’s Bikram Pariyar in men’s 52kg weight category, while Ghale outplayed APF’s Bikash Bal Lama in men’s 69kg section final. In women’s 51kg final, Shrestha defeated APF’s Mala Rai. On Thursday, TAC’s boxers Tej Bahadur Deuba (49kg), Bimal Roka (56kg), Ek Bahadur Ghale (60kg), Deepak Shrestha (75kg) and Punam Rawal (60kg) along with Nepal Police Club’s Bhupendra Thapa (64kg) and APF’s Sangita Sunar (57kg) had made it to the squad.
According to Nepal Boxing Association President Ram Awale the NBA picked up 10 boxers despite getting a quota of seven, four in men’s section and three in women’s section, from National Sports Council. — HNS
