Cabinet releases cash for rewards

KATHMANDU: The cabinet decided to release Rs 10.461 million as a cash reward for the 11th South Asian Games medallists here today.

The government released the amount sought by the National Sports Council (NSC). The NSC had announced cash rewards of Rs 300,000, Rs 200, 000 and Rs 100,000

for the gold, silver and bronze medal winners in the individual events. Nepal won a total of eight gold, nine silver and 20 bronze medals in Dhaka.

Of the total medals won Nepal, who participated in the 23 sports disciplines, managed one silver and nine team event bronze medals at the SA Games held in Dhaka from January 29 to February 9. Meanwhile, the NSC member secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary revealed that the sports governing body will also present Nepali contingent with surprise packages. “We are also coming up with a surprise packages for some players, officials and associations apart from managing the proper medication for the injured players during the Games,” said Chaudhary.
