CAN calls 24 probables for U-19 Elite Cup camp
Kathmandu, March 24:
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) today called 24 probables for the ACC Under-19 Elite Cup camp.
Out of the 24 players, nine berths were reserved for those who represented the country in the ICC U-19 World Cup last year, regardless of how they fared in the Wai Wai U-19 National Tournament. The performance in the national tournaments is regarded as the primary basis of the selection of players in all the age groups and senior side.
Gyanendra Malla, Amrit Bhattarai, Akash Gupta, Sagar Khadka, Antim Thapa, Rom Shrestha, Chandra Saud, Rahul Kumar BK and Anil Mandal — who have been picked for the camp — were in the Nepali squad that took part in the U-19 WC in Malaysia in 2008. Others in the squad are Prithu Baskota, Subash Khakurel, Sunny Pun, Anupam Singh, Hasim Ansari, Rupesh Srivastav, Sahid Riza, Abinash Karn, Lal Bahadur Adhikari, Subash Pradhan, Jata Shankar Sarraf, Nabin Shahi, Naresh Budayer, Akash Singh Pariyar and Pradeep Airee.
The players were picked by the National Selection Committee headed by Arun Kumar Aryal. The ACC U-19 Elite Cup will be held in Kuwait from April 22. Nepal have qualified for the last five U-19 World Cups winning four ACC Trophies in 2001 (Kathmandu), 2003 (Karachi), 2005 (Kathmandu) and 2008 (Malaysia). In 2000, Nepal qualified as the runner-up. Nepal, who won the Plate Championship in 2006, lost in the 2008 Plate Championship final.
