KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 1

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided not to renew the contract of men's national cricket team head coach Mrugang Jagadish Desai, popularly known as 'Monty Desai.'

Issuing a press statement today, CAN announced that Desai's two-year tenure, set to expire soon, will not be extended.

CAN spokesperson Chumi Lama expressed the association's deep appreciation for Desai's contributions, stating, "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Monty Desai, under whose mentorship the men's team delivered commendable performances and achieved significant milestones."

During his tenure, Nepal successfully qualified for the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The team also participated in the ICC T20 World Cup, held in the USA and the West Indies, and successfully retained its ODI status.

Desai was initially appointed as the head coach of Nepal's men's national cricket team on February 6, 2023.
