Charity football match for conflict victims on July 22

Kathmandu, July 7:

Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum (NSJF), in coordination with Federation of Nepali Journalists, is organising a charity match between two footballing power houses of the country — league champions Manang Marsyangdi Club and runner-up Nabil Three Star Club — at the Dasharath Stadium on July 22.

The match is being held to raise fund for the journalists and their families, who were affected during the Jana Andolan II and the 12-year-long armed conflict. During that period, 18 journalists were killed and numerous others were seriously injured. “Our sincere thanks to the two clubs and the players for joining hands with us in the noble cause,” NSJF said in a press release on Friday.

To motivate players and make the game competitive, the organisers have allocated match fees to the participating teams. The NSJF, in assistance of NJF, will be fully responsible to manage the event while ANFA will provide the required technical assistance. The NSJF will raise the necessary fund required to organise the tournament.

One fourth of the profit earned through the tournament will go to the Journalists Welfare Fund formed by FNJ while a share each will be distributed to NSJF and the two participating teams.
