Nisha Chaudhary of Lumbini became the fastest woman of the country when she ran the 100m race in 12.15 seconds breaking the 23-year-old record on the opening day of athletics at the Pokhara Stadium today.
Chaudhary set the new mark in 100m heats breaking the previous mark of 12.19 seconds set by Devimaya Paneru in the Eighth South Asian Federation Games in Kathmandu in 1999. Paneru's record was electrical timing, while Chaudhary's mark is hand-timing.
Chaudhary's record did not last long though. Tribhuvan Army Club athlete Saraswoti Chaudhary broke the mark in finals on her way to winning gold medal with the timing of 12.13 seconds. Nepal APF Club athlete Shivaraj Parki won men's 100m gold in 10.56 seconds. TAC's Yuvaraj BK came second in 10.58 and his teammate Dilli Bhandari was third in 10.70 seconds.
The 13th South Asian Games gold medallist Santoshi Shrestha of Nepal APF Club won the 10,000m gold with the timing of 36 minutes and 12.36 seconds. Rajpura Pachhai of NPC came second and APF's Pushpa Bhandari was third.
TAC athlete Mukesh Pal won men's 1,500m race in three minutes and 52.21 seconds, while Ajit Yadav of APF came second in 3:53.11 and NPC's Nageshwor Yadav was third in 3:56.4.
APF's Fulmati Rana won women's section gold with the timing of 4:38.19. TAC's Saraswoti Bhattarai came secnd in 4:41 and her teammate Rekha Limbu was third in 5:03.80.
TAC's Tilak BK and NPC's Chandrakala Lamgade won gold medals in shotput.
