Chaudhary, Shahi claim gold medals in javelin throw

KATHMANDU: Naresh Chaudhary of Central Region and Aruna Shahi of Western Region claimed javelin throw gold medals at the Inter-school National Games here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Naresh won the gold with a throw of 41.10 meters while Raj Kumar Rai (36.34m) of Eastern Region and Rajesh Maharjan (35.84m) of Central Region finished second and third. In the girls section, Aruna clinched gold medal with a throw of 24.46 metres. Anju Chaudhary (24.38) of Mid-Western and Malati Gurung (19.19) of Western Region won silver and bronze.

Nabin Gurung of Western Region earned the boys’ high jump honour with a leap of 1.68 metres. His regional teammate Arbin Chaudhary (1.65m) won silver and Devendra Chaudhary (1.60m) the bronze. Barsha Bhattarai (1.40m) of Mid-Western Region won the girls’ high jump gold followed by Gyani Chunara (1.35m) and Prabha Rai (1.30m).

Minraathi BK of Western Region won the boys’ 5,000m race in 17min, 18.29sec. Prakash Paneru (17:20.26) and Surendra Gwacha (17:20.14) of Central Region earned silver and bronze medal. Likewise, Tilak Ram Mahato (11.05 seconds) of Western Region clinched 100m gold medal followed by his teammate Kiran Rana (11.13) and Rabin Chaudhary (11.67) of Mid-Western Region. Krishna Chaudhary of Mid-Western won the girls’ 100m race in 13.72 seconds. Parbati Timalsina (13.79) of Western Region and Srijana Bade (14.68) of Central Region finished second and third.

Football

KATHMANDU: Dhading saw off Udaypur 2-0 in the boys’ football tournament at the Dasharath Stadium on Monday. Dharma Raj Wasti and Ashish Shrestha scored one goal each for Dhading.

In the second match, Kavre humiliated Kapilvastu 10-3. Binod Lama alone struck five goals and Bikesh Kapali scored three. Kush Raj Basnet also joined the goal scoring spree while Kapilvastu conceded an own goal. Hem Bahadur Malla replied with two goals, while Santaram Tharu netted one goal for Kapilvastu.

Kaski blanked Jumla 5-0 in the third match of the day. Karan Gurung and Ram Prasad Chapagain scored a brace each and Raju Sharma added the other. Also, Syangja overcame Dhankuta 5-1. Ajay BK and Bijay Tharu struck twice each and Bijay Saru added another.

In the girls’ football held at the FIFA Technical Centre in Chyasal, Dhankuta beat Jumla 2-0 on goal from Indra Chemjong and Pabina Limbu. In the other match, Darchula edged past Nawalparasi 3-2. Priti Chaudhary scored twice and Janaki Bohara added the other for Darchula. Radhika Kumal and Sushma Bista replied for Nawalparasi.

Volleyball

KATHMANDU: Western Region claimed the boys’ section volleyball championship in the Inter-school National Games here on Monday. Western Region finished their campaign undefeated after seeing off Far-Western Region 25-22, 25-23 in the third and final match. Far-Western Region finished second with four points, two fewer than Western Region. Mid-Western Region won the battle for the third place, defeating Eastern Region 25-16, 25-20. Mid-Western earned two points while Eastern Region were winless.

Meanwhile, Central Region and Western Region share the lead with six points each in the boys’ section. On Monday, Central Region beat Eastern Region 25-14, 25-15 before seeing off Mid-Western 25-23, 25-11. Western Region defeated Far-Western Region 25-9, 25-12. In another match, Eastern Region dispatched Far-Western 20-25, 25-23, 25-19.
