Chauraha join Goldens in DPL qualifier, Attariya to face United in eliminator

KATHMANDU: CYC Attariya defeated Biratnagar Kings by six wickets in the last round robin match of Ruslan Dhangadhi Premier League Twenty20 Cricket Tournament to secure their berth in eliminator, on Sunday.
With the win over national cricket team captain Paras Khadka-led Kings, Attariya accumulated five points from five games to fix the eliminator clash against third-placed side Mahendranagar United.
Earlier, United's match against table-topper Kathmandu Goldens was washed out, forcing both teams to share a point each. National team Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla's Goldens who have nine points from five matches will face second-placed Dhangadhi Team Chauraha in first qualifier match of the tournament. Both first qualifier and eliminator matches will be played on Tuesday. The winner of the qualifier will reach to the final of the competition. The losing side will have another chance to make the place in final as they play will meet the winner of the eliminator, in second qualifier of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the match played at SSP grounds was reduced to six overs where Attariya won the toss and invited Kings to bat who posted 55-3. In reply, Attariya reahed the target in 5.4 overs losing four wickets.
Kings made a modest start to the innings with the openers Babar Hayat and Anil Kumar Sah creating a 22-run partnership for the first wicket. Hong Kong international Hayat made 7-ball 14 where as Sah added 15 runs. Likewise, captain Paras Khadka contributed 15 runs off nine balls and unbeaten Dilip Nath made 15 runs.
Attariya's Kamal Singh Airee took two wickets and Shuvankar Urao added another.
Meanwhile, Attariya made a poor start to the innings as they lost their openers Gaurav Chitkara and Kushal Bhurtel cheaply. Chitkara was out for a duck and Bhurtel managed to score just four runs. Skipper Dipendra Singh Airee, who came to bat at third number, tried to lay the foundation making 15-ball 20 while Indian recruit Vipin Chandra top-scored with 26 runs off 13 balls which was crucial to reach the target.
Kings' captain Khadka and Ram Naresh Giri bagged two wickets each.
