Clarke to miss Pakistan clash

DUBAI: Australia's stand-in captain Michael Clarke will not play in Thursday's Twenty20 clash against Pakistan in Dubai so he can prepare for upcoming commitments, an official said Sunday.

The 28-year-old was chosen to lead Australia in the ongoing five-match one-day international series after regular captain Ricky Ponting was rested.

"The national selection panel has recommended Clarke be released from the last Twenty20 match in Dubai to allow him a few additional days for next month's Twenty20 world cup followed by the Ashes," selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin will lead Australia in the Twenty20 game against Pakistan in Dubai on May 7.

Clarke-led Australia took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the one-day series after winning the past three matches.

Clarke hit an unbeaten 100 to help Australia beat Pakistan by eight wickets in the fourth match here on Friday.

Australia were playing the fifth and final match here on Sunday.
