Courbis gets 2-yr jail term
Marseille, June 9:
Former Marseille coach Rolland Courbis has been sentenced to a two-year jail term by a court here on Friday for accepting transfer bungs between 1997 and 1999.
Courbis was found guilty of receiving illegal payments from the transfers of former France international Christophe Dugarry and former Italy forward Fabrizio Ravanelli.
He was also condemned to serve an additional 18 months in prison after a suspended sentence he received in 1995 relating to another affair was partially revoked, meaning he will serve three and a half years in prison.
Principal club shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus received a three-year suspended sentence and a 475,000 dollar fine.
Two transfer agents were also sentenced with Gilbert Sau receiving an 18 month prison term and Licio D’Onofrio six months.
