Cricket Carnival from Friday

Kathmandu, January 17

Madan Bhandari Sports Academy said all the preparations were completed for the first Grand Cricket Carnival slated for Friday and Saturday at the Tribhuvan University Stadium.

The carnival will feature talent hunt, seminar on cricket issues, cricket photo exhibition, cricket documentary exhibition, concert as well as cricket games among political leaders, artists, journalists and business personalities, informed the organisers at a press meet today.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the event. The academy will also felicitate an individual with the Madan Bhandari Award.

Academy President Binod Shrestha said the cricket carnival  was being organised with the target of attracting school and college students into the sport and bringing in political leaders and concerned authorities to inform them about the game.

“We want to make people from different background aware about the sport as cricket can attract people from every walk of life,” said Shrestha. He also said that the event would continue in coming years.

Similarly, Academy’s Cricket Department Head Sudeep Sharma said that a total of 10 cricketers would be picked up from talent hunt programme and they would be given free training for a year.

“The cricketers selected from the event will be trained for free in different cricket academies for a year and will be provided with cricket kits. And they will also take part in different tournaments and tours,” said Sharma.

Sharma informed that around 500 cricketers are expected to participate in the talent hunt event.
