Deccan beat Chennai
NEW DELHI: Tirumalsetti Suman slammed a half-century as Deccan Chargers beat Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match here today.
Suman's (55 off 44) innings was studded with four fours and two sixes. Andrew Symonds (27) held nerves to help his side chase the target successfully in the 19.1 overs. Deccan Chargers bowlers displayed brilliant skills to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 138-8. Suresh Raina (52 off 42) top scored for Chennai making a calculative half-century before going down to Ryan Harris.
On Friday, Kumar Sangakkara led from the front as Kings XI Punjab humbles table-toppers Mumbai Indians by six wickets. Already out of semi-final race, Punjab recorded only their third win in 11 outings. For them, Piyush Chawla (3-24) silenced the Mumbai top guns, including Sachin Tendulkar, while Irfan Pathan (3-29) dented the middle order to restrict the visitors to a modest 154-9.
Mahela Jayawardene (31) gave Punjab a flying start and Adrian Barath (33) provided the solidity while skipper Sangakkara (56) stayed put till the penultimate over as the home side cruised to 158-4 in 19.2 overs.
