Deepak Acharya bounces back

Deepak Acharya carded a par-72 on the second day for a one stroke lead in the Himalayan Bank Open Golf Tournament here at Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, on Tuesday.

The Gokarna pro Acharya, who was in third spot after the frst round, had a bad start with bogeys in the first two holes, and came under threat after a double bogey in the eighth hole. But an eagle in the Par-5 third and birdies in the 4th, 7th and 9th holes saw him finishing the front nine at one-under 35.

In the back nine, he had three birdies in the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes, and was on course of a good score but four consecutive bogeys in the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th shattered his dreams of playing under par and finished the day at par-72 for an overall tally of one-over 145.

One shot adrift were overnight leader Sabin Sapkota and Ramesh Nagarkoti.

Nagarkoti played a round of one-under 71 which included an eagle at third hole, birdies in the second, seventh, and 12th, bogeys on hole eight and 17th and a double bogey on the 15th hole. Sapkota had a disastrous round of five-over 77.

Pashupati Sharma, Deepak Neupane and Deepak Thapa Magar were tied at fourth with 147 each. Neupane had the best round with two-under 70, Sharma carded one-over 73, while Thapa Magar returned the cards with three-over 75.

In Amateur section, Tashi Tsering is tied with Deepak Acharya at 145. Tashi played a round of one- under 71. Ravi Khadka was four strokes behind at five-over 149.
