Deepak & Co win golf title
Kathmandu, February 26:
Versatile Charter Team led by professional golfer Deepak Thapa Magar accumulated 56 points and won the Kathmandu Scramble Golf Tournament here at Royal Nepal Golf Course on Saturday. Kundan Rana, Neeraj SJB Rana and Arun Chand were the amateur golfers in the team. Magar won Rs 20,000 out of total cash prize of Rs 81,000.
Salt Trading Corporation, which had pro Ram Thapa and amateurs Rajendra Man Sherchan, Madhukar Yakthumba and Kalyan G Shrestha came second with 57 points. Thapa won Rs 12,000. Safari Adventure lodge, led by Radhe Shyam Thapa and Neerala, under the leadership of Sabin Sapkota, came joint third with 58 points and shared Rs 15,000 between them.
Himalayan Bank, led by Rajib Pariyar, came fifth; Castrol, led by Sachin Bhattarai, finished sixth; Mayos, led by Ramesh Nagarkoti, claimed seventh position; Air Dynasty, led by Pashupati Sharma, and Barah-Kagaj-carpet, led by Deepak Neupane, were joint eighth; Nanglo, led by Rajan Thapa, came 10th; and St Peters Hospital, led by Deepak Acharya and ISME College, led by Bhimsen Karki, tied at 11th.
Twelve private organisations sponsored the tournament with most of the organisations’ senior executives playing in the event, the first of its kind in Nepal. Twelve professional golfers from Pokhara, Dharan and Kathmandu teamed up with 36 amateurs.
All the participating pros received cash prizes while the amateur golfers were given the gift hampers. RNGC president S K Singh, ex-presidents K G Baral, V S Rana, H B Amatya, vice-president M Yakthumba, and executive committee members gave away prizes.
