Three departmental teams recorded victories on the opening day of the seventh Prime Minister Cup National Volleyball Club League here at the NSC-covered hall on Saturday.

Nepal Police Club defeated Gandaki Province in straight sets in the women's section match. Player-of the-match Usha Bhandari starred as the star-studded NPC registered a 25-10, 25- 10, 25-11 victory over Gandaki.

In the men's section, Tribhuvan Army Club beat Sailung Bagdunga Sports Club 25-8, 25-13, 25-17, while NPC labored to a 25-21, 25-16, 13- 25, 24-26, 15-10 victory over Gandaki.

Likewise, Nepal APF Club defeated Dawali Milan Club 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 in the day's last match.

A total of 13 teams - seven in men's and six in women's sections - selected from the Club Championship held last year are taking part in the tournament organized by the Nepal Volleyball Association.

The top two teams in both categories will advance to the final after the round-robin league. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha inaugurated the tournament.

The winners will earn a berth in the CAVA Club League Championship to be held in Kathmandu later this year.

Top four teams in both sections will earn Rs 600,000, Rs 300,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively, while the best players of the tournament will get Rs 35,000 each. Likewise, the best server, setter, blocker, spiker, libero and coach will receive Rs 15,000 each.
