Dong, Singh triumph

Tashi Dong and Hridesh Singh claimed the titles of the Carlsberg Golf Series here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Dong, the former national football team member and skipper of Manang Marshyangdi Club, accumulated 200 points to win the nett category trophy, while Singh totaled 230 points to lift the gross section title after the completion of the third and final event of the series.
In the final event, Dong won the nett section title with 40 points. The four-handicap amateur golfer carded five birdies — three straight from the third along with 10th and 16th holes. He faced bogeys on the 12th, 17th and 18th and faced a double bogey on the seventh hole. Dong also won the closest-to-the-pin award. Co-leaders in the nett category, Pemba Sherpa and Captain Norbu Sherpa failed to earn points in the third event. Dr Niranjan Sharma finished second on count back after he was tied on 38 points with Nirmal Dahal.
In gross section, Singh accumulated 35 points to win the title of the third edition and the overall trophy. He sank an eagle on the 12th hole and carded three birdies on the fifth, eighth and 10th holes. Singh also faced a double bogey on the 16th and dropped shots on the seventh, 15th, 17th and 18th holes. Ang Tshring Sherpa finished second on count back after he was tied on 31 points with Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi.
U Jin Shim won the women’s section title with 27 points, while Rekha Ghimire was second with 26 points. Lobsang Tenzing claimed the senior section trophy with 32 points. Capt Norbu Sherpa bagged the longest drive award, while SSP Rajendra Shrestha won the most birdies award.
A total of 91 golfers took part in the final edition. Managing Director of Gorkha Brewery Pvt Ltd Philip Norley, Marketing Head Baibhav Sharma, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
