Eastern, Western make winning start

Eastern and Western recorded wins in the PM Cup National Women's Cricket Tournament here at the DVM Global Academy in Itahari today.

Eastern defeated Central Region by 77 runs in Group B match, while Western saw off Mid-western by four wickets in Group A match.

Batting first, Eastern scored 124-3 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Central on 47 runs in 13 overs. Apsara Begam scored 46 runs and Roma Thapa contributed 42 runs to help Eastern reach a mammoth total. Aarati Bidari bagged two wickets for Central.

In reply, Central were packed cheaply as their batters failed to reach double figures. Eastern's Rubina Chhetri picked up three wickets and Sangita Rai took two wickets to restrict Central. Roma Thapa of Eastern was named the player-of-the-match.

Similarly, Mid-western were bowled out for 64 runs in 16 overs after they batted first. Rabina Gyawali top scored with 12 runs for Mid-western. Western's Sita Thapa Magar and Sabita GC pocketed two wickets each.

In reply, Western raced to victory in 17 overs with four wickets in hand. Player-of-the-match Nitu Bhandari scored 29 runs and Barsha Rana added 14 runs.

A total of six teams are competing in the league-cum-knock out tournament. The winners and runners-up will earn Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, while the best player will be awarded with Rs 10,000. Similarly, the best batter and bowler will get Rs 5,000 each.
