Employees padlock Sports Council
KATHMANDU: The temporary employees of the National Sports Council (NSC) today padlocked the main gate of the council demanding extension of their contract period.
The struggle committee for the temporary employees demanded to extend the contract of the temporary employees which ended this month. After shutting down the NSC, the committee met Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali at his office in Satdobato to present the memorandum of their contract extension.
The committee also gave five-day ultimatum to the minister to address the issue. The
struggle committee said they would announce further protest programs if their contracts
were not extended. The minister said he would take appropriate actions after the board meeting of the NSC.
There are 305 temporary employees at the NSC of which
80 employees’ contract have
expired this month and the
remaining are to be expired shortly. The employees were recruited by the former Member Secretary of the NSC, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, who tendered
his resignation after the Youth and Sports Ministry portfolio went to the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP).
