EPL honours umpire Upadhyaya
KATHMANDU: EPL Pvt Ltd on Tuesday honoured former cricketer and umpire Sirish Upadhayaya with the Lifetime Achievement Award here at the TU Stadium. EPL Pvt Ltd’s Managing Director Aamir Akhtar handed over the award and Rs 25,000 to Upadhyaya, who hails from Biratngar, for his contribution in Nepal cricket.
Upadhayaya said he was happy for being honoured with the award.
“At least the trend of felicitation has been established,” said Upadhyaya, who completed Level-II Umpires’ Course in 2008 in Kathmandu. Upadhyaya started umpiring in domestic tournament from Shadar Memorial Cricket Tournament in Janakpur some 26 years ago and also stood in the Mahabir Cup in three consecutive editions. He also did umpiring in the ACC U-19 Trophy in 2001 in Kathmandu and also got the opportunity in four tournaments organised by Asian Cricket Council.
“I am still doing umpiring in domestic tournaments and will continue to do so,” said Upadhyaya, who played national cricket tournament from Janakpur and club cricket from Biratnagar. He has been working as a curator a the Baijnathpur Cricket Ground in Morang.
