JHAPA: Far-west-XI defeated defending champions Jhapa-XI 5-4 in penalty shootout and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Gold Cup Football Tournament that kicked off here in Mechinagar on Friday.

The winners of the match were decided on penalties after both the teams settled for a 2-2 draw in the regulation time. Narendra Chaudhary, Rakesh Hamal, Chetan Tharu, Binod KC and Philip Tamang scored for Far-west on penalties.

Jhapa’s Yogesh Gurung, Dilen Loktang, Sumin Mainali and Chhiring Gurung converted their shots, while Narendra Limbu was denied by Far-west goalkeeper Ananta Sheikh.Sheikh was named the man-of-the-match and got Rs 10,000.
