Federer, Nadal earn Masters Cup places

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have secured their places in the end-of-season Masters Cup to be staged in Shanghai from November 11-18, the ATP announced on Monday.

World number one Federer, who won his fifth successive Wimbledon title last week, is the defending champion at the Masters Cup. “I look forward to returning to Shanghai to defend my Masters Cup title,” said Federer, a three-time winner of the tournament.

“Winning there was a perfect ending to last season and I love playing in China.”

Three-time French Open champion Nadal, the world number two, has won five titles this year and has extended his Open Era record-winning streak on clay to

81 matches. “I’m very happy

to have qualified for the Masters Cup again this year,” said the Spaniard.
