Getafe end Barca’s winning run
Madrid, November 24:
Barcelona saw their lead cut to three points at the top of the Spanish La Liga and their nine-match winning streak come to an end following a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Getafe on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s side has been virtually unplayable in the league at the Nou Camp this season, racking up 17 goals and conceding just one in their last three matches. But it was frustrated by a stubborn Getafe side, who took the lead through Manu Del Moral after 19 minutes.
The Catalans eventually equalised through Seydou Keita in the 71st minute, but was unable to secure a 10th straight league win despite their late pressure. Barca now lead the standings by just two points from bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Deportivo La Coruna survived a late scare to beat Athletic Bilbao 3-1. First-half goals from Ze Castro and Joan Verdu put the Galicians firmly in control but a Javi Martinez header midway through the second half gave the visitors hope until Andres Guardado’s injury-time goal settled matters.
Real Mallorca had to come from behind to earn a point against Malaga despite dominating the game for long periods. The visitors were ahead when Ivan Ramis put the ball into his own net in the 12th minute, and although Cheli quickly equalised, Malaga went 2-1 ahead through Nabil Baha’s 24th-minute strike. Pierre Webo then found the equaliser in the 66th minute.
Also, Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 at Numancia, Osasuna beat Almeria 3-1, Racing Santander won 3-0 against Espanyol and Real Betis won 2-1 at Sporting Gijon.
